With a dramatically lower cost of living and cost of doing business than Silicon Valley, Greater Sacramento is becoming California's new tech destination, according to the Greater Sacramento Area Economic Council. Buoyed by the City of Sacramento's partnership with 500 Startups and its founder, tech venture capitalist Dave McClure, Greater Sacramento has reinforced its reputation as a global technology player. Shanghai-based Anpac Bio-Medical is one of many international innovators that has recognized the competitive advantages of having a Sacramento headquarters. Though it is generally recognized for its government and real estate-related industries, Sacramento also has thriving economy comprised of healthcare, agriculture, clean technology, and education. As a rising startup ecosystem, greater Sacramento shares a 208,000-strong workforce with San Francisco and San Jose, with 89,000 area residents living in the Bay Area and working in Sacramento. Big players such as Apple and Intel as well as innovators such as Flippbox and PowerSchool are part of the city’s thriving entrepreneurial climate.
