eww ITandTEL: Marchtrenk Data Center
About Marchtrenk Data Center
The Marchtrenk Data Center, operated by Austrian communications and IT infrastructure provider eww ITandTEL (a division of the eww Group), is located in Marchtrenk in Upper Austria. It stands out as a purpose-built, high-security facility designed to meet the demands of modern enterprise and critical-infrastructure workloads.
Strategically, the facility leverages its connection to eww ITandTEL’s national fibre-optic backbone and regional network infrastructure, ensuring high-performance connectivity across Austria and into neighbouring markets. It is certified to the European standard EN 50600 for data-centre infrastructures—making it one of the first customer-facing facilities in Austria to hold that certification.
Additionally, the site reflects eww ITandTEL’s commitment to sustainability and data sovereignty, with full Austrian-based operations, renewable power-sourcing, and secure server-housing environments.
⚙️ Facility Highlights
- The data centre was built in a rapid timeline—construction was completed in approximately seven months, enabling swift deployment of capacity.
- Initial deployment space offers around 600 m² of high-density server hall, capable of housing up to 4,500 servers, with provisions to expand four-fold when required.
- The cooling infrastructure includes an air-handling system using free-cooling techniques, installed by specialist vendor COOLtec. For example, a plant power rating of 360 kW was referenced in design documentation.
- The facility is utilising a fully redundant UPS system and on-site backup power generation, delivering resilient power architecture in line with leading industry standards.
🔐 Security & Compliance
- Physical access and structural security are emphasised: multi-stage access controls, CCTV monitoring, man-trap entry, and robust building design ensure secure operations.
- The Marchtrenk Data Center is certified to ISO/IEC 27001 for information security, and critically, it is Austria’s first customer-facing data-centre certified to EN 50600 for data centre infrastructure.
- The facility offers 100% Austrian data residency, full SDG-compliant infrastructure, and uses 100% renewable electricity—reinforcing compliance with strict data sovereignty and environmental standards.
🌐 Connectivity & Carrier Access
- The site is part of eww ITandTEL’s nationwide fibre-optic network and is carrier-neutral, providing customers with flexible carrier choice and high-speed interconnect.
- Network architecture allows for high-capacity fibre links, with the data centre engineered to support >400 Gbit/s high-speed backbone connectivity.
- Free-cooling and efficient infrastructure reduce latency and allow high-performance workloads and interconnection services to operate reliably in a central-European locale.
💼 Who It Serves
- Enterprises requiring high-availability infrastructure for mission-critical applications, where Austrian-based data sovereignty and secure operations are mandatory.
- Telecom operators, cloud service providers and hosting companies seeking a well-connected Austrian data-centre footprint with carrier-neutral access.
- Organisations leveraging hybrid-cloud or managed-hosting models that demand modular, resilient and scalable colocation infrastructure within Austria.
- Firms prioritising sustainability and energy-efficient operations, particularly those that want low-latency connectivity in the Central European region.
