Microsoft Azure New Zealand North is a full Azure cloud region, located in Auckland, New Zealand, officially launched in December 2024. It comprises three separate availability zones (distinct physical locations) providing high resilience for connectivity, power, and operations. Strategically, it delivers local cloud infrastructure to New Zealand organisations, enabling low-latency access, data residency inside national borders, alignment with regulatory and cultural obligations, and better performance for latency-sensitive workloads. 

The Auckland location benefits from local access to renewable energy sources, a mature telecommunications backbone, and proximity to major business and government hubs.

• Availability Zones: The region includes three availability zones, each with independent power, cooling, and network infrastructure to provide zone-redundancy and high availability. 
• Sustainability / Energy: Powered by 100% carbon-free energy from solar, wind, and hydro sources from day one; air-based cooling systems are used instead of water-heavy cooling to reduce resource usage; Microsoft contracted with Contact Energy to support renewable power supply. 
• Hyperscale Infrastructure: Designed as a hyperscale region, capable of scaling to meet large enterprise, government, and AI workloads.
