NTT Communications $350 Million Investment in RagingWire Data Centers Complete

3 Feb 2014 by Datacenters.com Technology

"The ICT solutions and international communications business within NTT (NTT Communications Corporation (NTT Com)), along with RagingWire Data Centers, one of the front runners in the data center industry, particularly in U.S. colocation services, announced a joint venture that would give NTT Com an 80% ownership stake in RagingWire. The cost: $350 million for the acquisition. RagingWire will maintain some autonomy and a minority interest, allowing the company's founders and management team to operate the company as a platform under the RagingWire brand.

Adding RagingWire's data center spaces to NTT Com more than doubles the latter's data center space in the U.S. - while giving both companies the ability to respond to the ever-increasing demand for data center colocation services worldwide.

NTT Com also plans to use RagingWire's patented technologies and knowledge for new design innovations in its data centers. NTT Com is also banking on RagingWire's reputation for extremely dependable and highly sophisticated data centers.

According to Akira Arima, CEO of NTT Com: ""We are thrilled to welcome RagingWire into the family of NTT Communications group companies. Our combined customer base which includes the top enterprises, government organizations, and Internet companies around the world will benefit from our expanded and enhanced data center and cloud solutions. RagingWire's patented data center power delivery design and technology along with their world-class customer service model will be important additions to our global solutions portfolio.""

With over 2.15 million square feet of data center space either built or in the works in Sacramento, California and Ashburn, Virginia, RagingWire's and NTT Com's data center footprint will increase exponentially.

Along with NTT Com's existing data centers total server room floor area, that already amounts to over 2.5 million square feet with 150 locations, under its Nexcenter (TM) brand, the brand hopes to offer enhanced data center services of higher quality - on par with RagingWire's stellar reputation. The new Nexcenter solutions will combine globally standardized service agreements, service level agreements (SLA) and customer portals with special cost-reducing features, such as advanced air conditioning systems and virtual-network-based global seamless services, including hybrid clouds.

Founder and CEO of RagingWire, George Macricostas, stated: ""RagingWire's management team and employees are honored to be recognized by NTT with this investment in our business, as part of the NTT family of companies, we plan to accelerate our build plan in North America, extend our data center platform globally, and add even more strategic value to our customers.""
