SRCE 55
About SRCE 55
Srce (University of Zagreb University Computing Centre — SRCE) is a public institution within the University of Zagreb (Croatia), founded on April 29, 1971. Srce plans, develops, and operates national e-infrastructure and digital services for Croatia’s academic and scientific community, including data centers, virtual/cloud infrastructure (VDC), and national networking services such as the Croatian Internet eXchange (CIX).
⚙️ Facility Highlights
Data Center Footprint:
SRCE states it operates six geographically distributed data centers: three in Zagreb (HR-ZOO ZG1, HR-ZOO ZG2, Srce ZG3) and one each in Split, Osijek, and Rijeka (HR-ZOO ST, HR-ZOO OS, HR-ZOO RI).
SRCE publishes aggregate capacity metrics for its data centers (housing service): 1.9 MW total planned power, 680 m² total area for housing equipment, and 115 racks.
Facility Design & Infrastructure:
SRCE states it designs, builds, and maintains data center systems including air conditioning, power supply, security and environmental monitoring, fire alarm, and fire extinguishing for the facilities it operates.
SRCE states its data centers include more than 1,600 measurement points and monitoring elements across the physical infrastructure.
Service Portfolio Overview:
Housing ICT equipment in data centers (colocation-style accommodation of computer/communications equipment) plus physical/technical monitoring and immediate physical assistance for housed equipment.
Virtual Data Centers (VDC): SRCE provides compute, storage, and network resources as a cloud-style service for institutions; it describes VDC scale including ~1200 virtual servers and ~12 PB total disk storage capacity on the VDC page.
VDC technical stack and storage services (as published): VMware Cloud Foundation, Veeam Backup & Replication, vSAN all-flash, and Scality storage with S3-compatible object storage, plus NFS/SMB access for VDC virtual servers.
🔐 Security & Compliance
Infrastructure Resilience:
Power/cooling redundancy design (e.g., N+1, 2N), generator runtime, and SLA tiers: Not publicly listed on SRCE pages reviewed.
Physical & Logical Security:
SRCE states it ensures access for persons authorized by the service user and provides physical and technical monitoring plus immediate physical assistance for housed equipment.
Specific controls (guards, mantraps, CCTV scope, visitor procedures, etc.): Not publicly listed on the SRCE pages reviewed.
Compliance & Standards:
Data center certifications (ISO 27001/9001, SOC, EN 50600/ISO 22237, etc.) for SRCE data centers: Not publicly listed on the SRCE pages reviewed.
🌐 Connectivity & Carrier Access
Carrier Neutrality:
Carrier-neutrality statement and published carrier lists per site: Not publicly listed on SRCE pages reviewed.
Network Capabilities:
SRCE operates CIX (Croatian Internet eXchange), an IXP founded in 2000, and states its experts design/build/maintain the CIX network infrastructure distributed in two locations and implement new network services for members.
SRCE is listed in PeeringDB as an interconnection facility/organization entry for SRCE Zagreb (directory listing evidence of interconnection context).
Connectivity Use Cases:
Domestic internet traffic exchange for ISPs and networks via CIX, intended to avoid unnecessary third-party routing and improve quality/security of communications.
Academic/scientific institutions housing equipment across SRCE-operated data centers and using SRCE’s cloud/virtual infrastructure services (VDC).
💼 Who It Serves
Croatian academic and scientific institutions and related public-sector stakeholders using national e-infrastructure and digital services operated by SRCE.
Networks/ISPs (commercial and non-commercial) participating in CIX internet traffic exchange.
