Santander Data Centers: Sao Paulo Data Center

Located near São Paulo in the Campinas region of São Paulo state, Brazil, Santander Data Centers built a large-scale facility to support its banking and digital-services operations in Latin America. The facility represents a major strategic investment by Santander in Brazilian infrastructure and was reported to cost around BRL 1.1 billion (approx. US $490 million) for a ~50 MW IT-load facility.

The facility offers a highly resilient design, Tier IV certification in design and construction, and supports heavy transaction-volumes, storage growth and virtualised environments. With its location in São Paulo’s economic heart and near major connectivity corridors, the data centre offers robust infrastructure for digital banking, enterprise IT, and mission-critical workloads across Latin America.

⚙️ Facility Highlights

• Designed for approximately 50 MW of IT load capacity, supporting large-scale operations. 
• Built on a substantial land-area (reported ~800,000 m²) with multiple independent buildings, redundancy provisions and expansion capability. 
• Certified to the Uptime Institute Tier IV standard for both design and facility — a first for Santander in Brazil at the time. 
• Infrastructure oriented for high performance: one report noted support for about 9,000 virtualised servers and average ~210 million transactions per day. 
• Employs advanced cooling (free-cooling design, reduced-water use cooling systems) and power resilience strategies (dual independent power systems, generator capacity up to 4 days at full load).

• Multi-layer physical resilience: The facility uses a “semi-buried bunker” design with reinforced walls and slabs, wrap-around earth berms for impact protection and full redundancy in utility and generator feeds.
• Certified infrastructure with Tier IV design/facility compliance under Uptime Institute, ensuring concurrent maintainability and highest availability class. 
• Built within the Santander global data-centre governance framework, aligning with standards for banking, transactions, and digital-services continuity. 

🌐 Connectivity & Carrier Access

• The São Paulo/Campinas region offers major fibre-routes and access to international backbones, making it one of Latin America’s key digital-infrastructure gateways. The facility leverages that connectivity to support banking and digital-services operations at scale. 
• While the facility is primarily owned/operated by Santander for its own operations, the scale and interconnect capability make the data centre relevant for enterprise, cloud and service-provider use-cases requiring low latency, high availability and Brazilian-domiciled infrastructure.
