SoftBank Group Corp: New Mexico Data Center
About New Mexico Data Center
The New Mexico Data Center is one of several flagship hyperscale facilities under development through the Stargate Project, a strategic partnership between SoftBank Group Corp., OpenAI, and Oracle Corporation. Located in Doña Ana County, New Mexico, this facility is part of a broader plan to build a 10 GW global AI data center network across the United States — designed to host the world’s most advanced artificial intelligence, cloud computing, and high-performance workloads.
The New Mexico site is strategically positioned in the American Southwest, offering direct access to renewable energy sources, low seismic activity, and a climate conducive to efficient cooling. Leveraging New Mexico’s abundant solar and wind energy, the facility is being designed as one of the most sustainable large-scale AI data centers in North America. Its role within the Stargate ecosystem is to serve as a core GPU supercomputing hub, powering OpenAI’s training clusters and SoftBank’s expanding AI infrastructure portfolio.
Backed by SoftBank’s global capital, Oracle’s cloud engineering expertise, and OpenAI’s compute demand, this development represents a transformative step toward building a new generation of AI-optimized, carbon-neutral infrastructure.
