Virgin Media Business (part of Virgin Media O2) maintains a strategic Manchester data center presence by providing high-capacity fiber connectivity and point-of-presence (PoP) services within the Equinix MA5 data center. 

This position gives Virgin Media direct access to one of the North of England’s most critical interconnection hubs, enabling them to serve enterprise clients, cloud providers, carriers, and content networks with ultra-low latency and high-performance network services. The Manchester region is a thriving digital and business center, and this presence strengthens Virgin Media’s footprint across its UK network north of London.

• The MA5 site offers premium colocation space—28,750 ft² (3,600 m²) initial, expandable to 69,750 ft² (6,490 m²) at full build-out. 
• Virgin Media’s connectivity solution leverages diverse fiber routes into MA5 to support resiliency and redundancy. 
• The platform supports 10 Gbps and 100 Gbps services, enabling high-capacity transport and managed backhaul offerings. 
• As part of its network upgrades (Project Spark), Virgin Media has introduced an enhanced National High Capacity Services (NHCS) core to simplify high-bandwidth provisioning with ultra-low latency.

While Virgin Media acts primarily as a network operator rather than data center owner in this case, the colocation facility (MA5) typically adheres to strong security and infrastructure standards. Public statements from Virgin Media about colocation say:

• On-site generators, CCTV, fire suppression systems, and high-security access controls are standard in their colocation-enabled facilities.
• Racks in these facilities are lockable and use multi-level power supplies to ensure continuity and redundancy.
