Virtus Data Centres: Virtus Berlin 1
About Virtus Berlin 1
Located in the Marienpark business park in Berlin, Germany, the Berlin1 data centre (part of the VIRTUS Marienpark Campus) will be operated by VIRTUS Data Centres, a specialist owner-operator and part of the ST Telemedia Global Data Centres group.
This facility is strategically positioned to serve as a digital infrastructure node for Germany and Europe—it is within reach of Berlin city centre and Berlin Brandenburg Airport, and embedded in a technology-driven ecosystem (including the KI-Park Deutschland). The campus addresses strong demand for hyperscale, high-performance computing, cloud, AI and enterprise-grade infrastructure in the German market. Berlin1 represents VIRTUS’s first major continental European build outside the UK, signalling its growth momentum into Europe.
⚙️ Facility Highlights
- Berlin1 is one of four buildings planned at the Marienpark Campus (Berlin1–4) with a total projected IT-load capacity of ~57.6 MW across the campus (14.4 MW per building) at full build-out.
- Designed with high-density infrastructure in mind, including compatibility for immersive cooling, direct-to-chip cooling and other modern thermal systems.
- The campus has a design aim of PUE < 1.2, emphasising energy efficiency and sustainability.
- Built-in waste heat recycling via connections to the local heating network is part of the architecture—highlighting sustainability and integration into the local utilities ecosystem.
🔐 Security & Compliance
- Security measures include 24/7 onsite staffing, biometric access control, vehicle-traps at perimeter, CCTV coverage both internal and external, and full authentication and access policy controls.
- The facility is being developed to high operational standards—VIRTUS references certifications including ISO 27001 (Information Security), ISO 14001 (Environmental Management) and ISO 50001 (Energy Management).
- As a large-scale campus in Germany, the facility will comply with German data-centre regulations and standards (energy, environment and availability) consistent with VIRTUS’s “Operational Excellence” promise.
🌐 Connectivity & Carrier Access
- The Marienpark campus is carrier-neutral, designed to support multiple connectivity providers, private and public cloud interconnects and high-performance networking for hyperscale workloads.
- Berlin1’s location offers excellent access to the German network backbone, connectivity to Berlin’s infrastructure nodes, and proximity to the airport and city centre which helps with logistics, networking and enterprise access.
- The campus strategy includes bespoke connectivity services and hybrid-cloud platforms, indicating readiness for enterprises, cloud providers and network operators with demanding interconnect requirements.
💼 Who It Serves
- Hyperscale cloud providers and AI/ML compute-intensive enterprises seeking a major German and European hub with significant power and density capability.
- Government, public-sector and regulated enterprises requiring German-domiciled, high-availability infrastructure that meets stringent compliance and performance standards.
- Enterprises, SaaS and platform providers with demanding latency, connectivity or performance requirements looking for a German-based facility in a major metro with strong growth.
