Cyxtera Continues European Expansion with New Amsterdam Facility

Cyxtera Technologies, the secure infrastructure company, announced the opening of its latest European data center in Amsterdam. Cyxtera’s newest facility in Amsterdam (AMS1) will commence business operations during the first quarter of 2020. The company will also expand its CXD on-demand data center platform to Frankfurt and Amsterdam.

"With the launch of our Amsterdam data center, we're continuing to answer the demand coming from our customers," said Alex Pearson, Senior Vice President for International Sales at Cyxtera, in a statement. “This is an important expansion of our European footprint, and the new facility will be particularly important to businesses in the finance, manufacturing and technology sectors who often need colocation space in this market.”

According to Cyxtera, AMS1 will provide a world-class, highly connected, secure infrastructure platform. It offers "total power of 72 megawatts to cloud providers, systems integrators, and multinational corporations." The latest expansion in Amsterdam will widen the company’s global footprint to 2.9 million square feet and 248 megawatts. Cyxtera is leasing 29,000 square feet of technical space and 3 megawatts of power at AMS1, a data center campus in Polanen Park.

The facility was selected in partnership with CyrusOne, a real estate investment trust (REIT). “CyrusOne provides customized, secure, and resilient data center solutions to reduce operating costs and provide unparalleled security and control. Cyxtera is answering the region’s call for increased data center capabilities, giving customers the reliability, security, and connectivity needed to support business objectives. We are delighted to partner with them to serve the entire market,” said Tesh Durvasula, European President at CyrusOne, in a press release announcing the opening of the facility.

Cyxtera also announced the expansion of CXD, the company’s on-demand data center platform, to both Amsterdam and Frankfurt in the first quarter of 2020. CXD is an intelligent, software-programmable platform that enables customers to easily procure, deploy, and configure interconnection and infrastructure services, allowing for rapid expansion of existing colocation environments and speeding time to market in new locations.

Headquartered in Miami, Cyxtera provides more than 3,500 customers with a secure, global platform for their mission-critical applications and systems. The company has a worldwide footprint of 50+ best-in-class data centers with a portfolio of modern, cloud- and hybrid-ready security and analytics offerings.
