Huge Leap into the Cloud: Mesosphere Partners with Google

"MBack in June, Mesosphere, Mesosphere, got a shot-in-the-arm from Venture Capitalists Andreessen Horowitz to the tune of $10 million, mainly for the company's business model of essentially easing the deployment and management of Apache Mesos clusters for datacenteruse.

Today, Mesosphere, jumped even further into the cloud by a lucrative partnership with Google. This new win-win situation will allow the company to extend Mesosphere's core capabilities to the Google Cloud Platform.

What does this mean to the end-user? Well it means a lot to the rest of ""us"". Apache Mesos is an open source technology that allows for ease of use when running complex and diverse applications. It's used by Twitter, Vimeo and Airbnb, and it's tied to Facebook and now Google.

In a nutshell, Mesosphere offers a layer of software that organizes machines, VMs and cloud operations, and allows applications to pull from a single pool of dynamically-allocated resources, rather than pulling from the ""old"" way - of multi-pools of resources which slow down all the aforementioned operations and applications.

When the technology came out Mesosphere claimed that it would give ""Google-like scale"" to any enterprise whether that company was running Mesos on site or in the cloud.

According to Florian Leibert, co-founder and CEO of Mesophere said that its bringing is number one solution to the Google Cloud Platform with a web app that enables customers to deploy Mesosphere clusters in minutes.

Leibert went on to say: ""Mesosphere enables users to manage their datacenter or cloud as if it were one large machine. It does this by creating a single, highly-elastic pool of resources from which all applications can draw, creating sophisticated clusters out of raw compute nodes (whether physical machines or virtual machines)'¦""

Leibert went on his company's blog to announce the partnership

""With our new web app, developers can literally spin up a Mesosphere cluster on Cloud Platform in just a few clicks, using either standard or custom configurations. The app automatically installs and configures everything you need to run a Mesosphere cluster, including the Mesos kernel, Zookeeper and Marathon, as well as OpenVPN so you can log into your cluster,"" he wrote, adding that this capability will soon be incorporated into the Google Cloud Platform dashboard via the click-to-deploy feature.

Futhermore, the companies plan on incorporating Google's open source platform for coordinating the deployment of Docker containers into a fleet of machines known as Kubernetes.

According to Leibert: ""You can schedule Docker containers side by side on the same Mesosphere cluster as other Linux workloads such as data analytics tasks like Spark and Hadoop and more traditional tasks like shell scripts and jar files'¦""

For such a young company, Mesosphere, is reaching for the stratosphere on a ""Google-like scale"" and it's paying off for the company and the companies running its vital software."
