Edged: Madrid-Getafe 2 Data Center

The Madrid-Getafe Data Center is a high-performance, ultra-efficient facility operated by Edged Energy in partnership with Merlin Properties, located in Getafe just south of Madrid’s city center. Strategic advantages include its position in Spain’s central fiber and logistics hub, offering low-latency direct links to undersea cable systems landing in Bilbao, Barcelona, and Lisbon. The facility is designed to support modern AI, cloud, and enterprise infrastructure with strong sustainability credentials. 

⚙️ Facility Highlights

• Critical (IT) power capacity of ~ 20 MW for the first Madrid-Getafe building (MG-1).
• PUE (Power Usage Effectiveness) annualized of 1.15, which is well above industry benchmarks for energy efficiency. 
• Zero water waste cooling / waterless cooling approach, including air-cooled chillers, glycol heat transfer, and no cooling towers consuming water. 
• Supports high power densities: up to about 70 kW per rack with air cooling, and up to 200 kW per rack using liquid cooling plug-and-play modules. 
• On-site battery storage of ~40 MWh capacity. 
• Solar-glass façade integrated into the building envelope to contribute to clean energy generation. 

🔐 Security & Compliance

• 24/7 access control with full site monitoring including CCTV surveillance. 
• Physical redundancy: The design meets Tier III (Uptime Institute) standards with concurrent maintainability: redundancy in power, UPS, cooling. 
• Generators are backup engines using biofuel (HVO biofuel) or similar cleaner fuels with reduced NOₓ and particulate emissions. 
• Fire detection & suppression: addressable smoke detectors, hot aisle early detection, double-interlock pre-action mist system in data halls. 
• Certifications / environmental compliance: the facility is operationally carbon neutral, powered by 100% renewable energy. Also complies with environmental performance metrics (e.g. low GWP refrigerants, zero water usage for cooling, etc.).
